Teaching Your Parents To Love Technology

Since technology is so important, you can help your parents learn to embrace it for communication needs, even if they have reached old age. Although your efforts might seem futile at first, with patience and the right approach, you can do a lot to ensure that your parents can harness the power of technology to assist them with their unique needs.

First of all, remember that that which comes so naturally to you may be completely bewildering to a parent who is not grown up with the benefits of the same technology that you have. Therefore, it is important to maintain a calm and supportive demeanor even while teaching the most basic of concepts such as using a web browser, composing an e-mail or learning how to bookmark a favorite website like www.direct.tv, to return to at a later time.

When you are teaching your parents about technology, make sure to tailor your lessons so that they will be informed about skills that are important to them. For example, if your mother only wants to learn how to operate her mobile phone, you both may become frustrated if you insist on teaching her how to operate her computer as well. Usually, once people become comfortable with learning skills that they consider to be essential, they will be more willing to tackle other skill sets.

Finally, be aware of the pacing of your lessons, and be sensitive to your parents ability to retain the knowledge that you’re teaching them. For example, after you have taught them a concept, you may find it worthwhile to suggest that they try to re-create the situation on their own as you look on and provide feedback. This is a good way to ensure that they have learned the lesson’s content and will increase their chances of being able to perform it on their own when you are not present.

Using Technology To Enhance Business Needs

Technology is an ever present force in today’s business world. When used properly, it can also be used to foster strong relationships with clients, as well as employees. The secret to success in this endeavor is to evaluate the tools that are available on the market to determine which will be most advantageous for your company’s situation.

One of the first things to consider is the size of your company. While smaller companies might be able to use a Internet chat program such as Skype to conduct business meeting with employees who are working remotely, this type of solution may not work well for offices that host several hundred employees. Ideally, you’ll want to search for a solution that allows your employees to communicate effectively with their coworkers without needing to divert their attention away from the task at hand for more than a few seconds or minutes. Therefore, the ideal technology interface for communication will be one that seems to effortlessly integrate with existing platforms so that users can get their point across quickly without having to take time out of their day to navigate to websites, launch programs, or otherwise become distracted.

Project management is another important facet of employee communication within a company. This communication method should be one that allows all project tasks to be centralized in a single location. In addition, this compilation should be able to be easily searched through to find strings of conversation, or even to single words that are related to a company project. As many projects require collaborative expertise, any sort of technology solution that you choose should be one that encourages active participation and communication among project members.

In closing, no matter what sort of technology solution that you choose to help strengthen your company relationships, it is important that your ultimate  choice is one that allows communication to simultaneously occur without requiring participants to get bogged down in technological jargon or secondary programs.

Vehicle Technology for Amputees

The ability to move around and go places is important for anybodies individuality. With out the ability to leave the home and do the things a person needs to do or want to do can heavily affect not only their development as a human being but their physical, mental, and emotional well being. For the last twenty years or so companies all over the world have been trying to provide a way for people with prosthetics or amputations to get out and enjoy their individuality. Feeling the wind blow through a persons hair is one of those greatest individual feelings. Just the car and the road. Due to years of technological advances in the field of automotive prosthetics, amputee’s can now feel the power coming from the engine while they drive down the open road. Here are just a few of the automotive technological advances for people with prosthetics.

Vehicle Technology for Amputees

1. Training- The Kessler Center for Amputee Rehabilitation is just one hospital that trains people who have lost limbs to drive again. Sometimes this is through the use of new technology and other times through the use of teaching amputees new ways of driving. Altering which body parts control which parts of the car can be challenging and different at first, but creates a system where people using prosthetics can still operate a motor vehicle.

2. Hand Pedals- Hand pedals on the steering wheel are already used in fast cars that need quick response. This same technology was converted to cars for amputees to help them shift the gears and accelerate or decelerate the car with out having to take their hands of the wheels. This not only provides them with the easy ability to control the car but also to have quick reaction measures.

3. Modified Controls- Like the hand pedals, other control cannot also be altered like the foot pedal, which can be moved to be pushed by the knees or head. Certain vehicles even have the seat removed so that a wheelchair can slide right in front of the wheel.

New Prosthetic Technology

In the technological age everything is getting more advanced every day. TVs no longer need remotes, and people can talk to their houses. Cars get plugged in every night to the wall and windows create energy by absorbing sun light. In the technology age it could be said then that every thing is getting better.

Just like the windows that create energy or the car that runs off the electricity from the house prosthetics are getting better every day. Twenty or thirty years ago if a person lost a leg it could be made so that they could still walk, but now, the loss of a leg cannot stop the most determined athletes. In the 60′s and 70′s, an amputee driving would have been considered dangerous, but because of technology, people with prosthetics can drive school buses, 18 wheelers, and motorcycles. Technology is the equalizer of our society. Here are a few other prosthetic advancements.

New Prosthetic Technology

1. Feeling- New technology recently out is using sensors in, and neural connection to provide feeling. The technology is very new but hopes to be able to provide recipients of prosthetic limbs to be able to feel and touch using connections in the new limbs.

2. Regenerative Kinetic Technology- New, below the knee limbs that were developed at the University of Arizona in 2007 are almost ready to be released. The new leg prosthetic using regenerative kinetic technology and springs to help the limb remember the motions as well as push back against the wearer making it feel more natural.

3. Video Game Technology- Other prosthetics are now using the same technology used to build the sensors for the Nintendo Wii to monitor peoples movements and give the prosthetic more balance.

Prosthetic technology is advancing every day and making the lives of those who wear them better.
